Magistrate judge questions relevance of Disney-Amazon pact in patent fight

InterDigital sued in February 2025 alleging that Disney's streaming services, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, infringe five patents related to video encoding and user interface technology.

A federal magistrate judge expressed skepticism Thursday about whether The Walt Disney Company should be compelled to disclose a confidential legal agreement with Amazon.com Inc. to patent-licensing firm InterDigital Inc. The dispute is the latest flare-up in a battle over video encoding technology that powers global streaming services.
