Newsom praises Alameda as CARE Court champion, criticizes larger counties

The governor highlighted early coordination and cross-agency work as key to success while warning lagging counties could lose CARE Court funding.

Gov. Gavin Newsom praised several counties for their CARE Court programs this week and lambasted others. But one stood out: Alameda County.

The densely populated county of 1.7 million was included on Newsom's list of "CARE Champions." Several other counties on the list are small, at least by Golden State standards, including Tuolumne (56,000), Humboldt (136,000), and Imperial (180,000).
