Judge refuses to overturn $40M Johnson & Johnson talc verdict

A Los Angeles judge denied Johnson & Johnson's motions to overturn a $40 million talc verdict, rejecting claims of juror misconduct and ruling the jury was properly instructed on substantial-factor causation.

A Los Angeles County judge on Wednesday rejected Johnson & Johnson's bid to overturn a $40 million jury verdict finding its talcum-based powders caused ovarian cancer in two women.

Superior Court Judge Theresa M. Traber said she would adopt a tentative ruling denying the company's motions for a new trial and judgment notwithstanding the verdict, finding Johnson & Johnson failed to show juror misconduct or error in her causation instructions.
