Disney agrees to $50 million settlement in streaming antitrust case

Disney agreed to pay $50 million to settle claims it forced streaming services to include ESPN in basic packages to prevent rivals from undercutting its Hulu + Live TV pricing.

Disney reached a $50 million settlement with plaintiffs in a class action over allegations the company required live TV streaming services to offer ESPN in their cheapest packages if they wanted to carry the network at all, to ensure they couldn't undercut Disney's Hulu + Live TV service, according to court filings.

The plaintiffs, a group of YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream customers represented by Bathaee Dunne LLP, moved for preliminary approval of the settlement agreement...
