OpenAI sued over alleged failure to prevent mass shooting

Families of victims claim ChatGPT flagged a potential threat, but company failed to alert authorities, raising new legal questions about AI's duty to act.

While it stands trial in Oakland over Elon Musk's allegations it breached its duty to donors, OpenAI was hit with another lawsuit in federal court this week, this one alleging it failed to prevent a mass shooting.

Families of the victims of a school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia -- which reportedly killed six students and left two dozen injured -- sued the company Wednesday in the Northern District of California.
