Lawmakers target threats, electroshock gloves in public safety bills

A Senate committee advanced measures increasing penalties for threats against election officials and judges and banning law enforcement from using wearable electroshock devices.

The California Senate Public Safety Committee on Wednesday passed SB 239, which would increase potential penalties for serious criminal threats against election officials, including judges.

Lawmakers also approved AB 2730. Introduced last week via the gut-and-amend process, it would ban the use of a "wearable electroshock device" by law enforcement, including federal law enforcement.
