Panel reverses disqualification of county attorney who concealed outside practice
An appeals court reversed the disqualification of an attorney who illegally maintained a private practice while working as an LA County deputy alternate public defender, finding his opponent lacked standing.
For 20 years, attorney Ilya Alekseyeff illegally represented private civil clients while working as a Los Angeles County deputy public defender and alternate public defender, repeatedly denying the outside work on employment disclosure forms, a state appeals court ruled.
But the 2nd District Court of Appeal reversed his disqualification from a civil case, finding the opposing party lacked standing to seek it. The panel sent the case back for Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge...
