Newsom signs AI performer disclosure law

California advertisers will have to disclose prominent use of AI-generated performers under a new law that drew opposition from business and technology groups over its labeling requirements and private enforcement provisions.

Advertisements shown in California will have to disclose when they prominently feature AI-generated performers under a new law Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Wednesday.

The word "prominently" was among changes made to SB 1050 as lawmakers sought to narrow the measure in response to concerns from business and technology groups. But the amendments were not enough to win over the California Chamber of Commerce, TechNet and the Computer and Communications Industry Association.
