British Columbia sues OpenAI over deadly school shooting

The province alleges OpenAI knew months before the Tumbler Ridge massacre that a teenager's ChatGPT conversations posed a credible risk of violence but failed to alert Canadian authorities.

British Columbia sued OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman in federal court in San Francisco on Monday, accusing the artificial intelligence company of failing to alert Canadian authorities after its own safety team allegedly identified the teenager who later carried out one of the country's deadliest mass shootings as a credible threat.
