Google defeats consumer challenge to default search deals
U.S. District Judge Rita F. Lin ruled that consumers challenging Google's agreements to make its search engine the default on browsers and operating systems failed to produce evidence that the deals deprived them of better search alternatives.
Google won dismissal Wednesday of a lawsuit challenging agreements that make it the default search engine on popular browsers and operating systems after a federal judge ruled the plaintiffs failed to produce evidence that the deals harmed them.
The plaintiffs argued that without Google's agreements, competing search engines offering greater privacy protections or fewer advertisements could have emerged. But U.S. District Judge Rita F. Lin said they offered no expert testimony...
