Church challenge to governor’s closure orders appealed to US Supreme Court

This latest challenge comes as Gov. Gavin Newsom faces opposition on several fronts to his policies to combat the coronavirus and his efforts to close the related hole in the state budget. This includes a new challenge to his vote-by-mail proposals and a historic “Committee of the Whole” session called by Assembly Democrats on Tuesday to question Newsom’s officials on the governor’s budget plans.
