Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero and judges and staff from the Superior Court of Imperial County will be on hand Monday to mark the completion of the new El Centro Courthouse.
The ceremony is by invitation only and not open to the public. Guerrero, born and raised in the Imperial Valley, said this dedication ceremony is a homecoming for her.
“I was shaped by and benefited from all my experiences here. I will always be grateful for my teachers, family, and lifelong friends who are still part of this wonderful community,” she said. “I’m proud to return as California’s Chief Justice, to serve the people of California, and to help usher in this new courthouse — a new symbol of justice for the residents of Imperial County.”
This is the first new state courthouse in California in two years, since the Sonora County Courthouse was completed in 2021. The judicial branch has completed 34 new courthouse projects since taking over responsibility for courthouses in 2002, and another 19 projects are underway and in various stages of completion.
