Public Counsel receives $3M from Mackenzie Scott
“The gift is the single largest contribution in Public Counsel’s 54-year history and will provide an unprecedented boost to our capacity to deliver holistic legal services and advocate for systems change through litigation and policy advocacy,” Public Counsel vice president Tracy Rice said.
Yield Giving, the foundation established by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, gave Public Counsel $3 million.
“The gift is the single largest contribution in Public Counsel’s 54-year history and will provide an unprecedented boost to our capacity to deliver holistic legal services and advocate for systems change through litigation and policy advocacy,” Public Counsel vice president Tracy Rice said in a statement.
Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, received a 4% stake in the online retailer and signed a “Giving Pledge,” promising to give away at least half of her wealth over the course of her lifetime.
“We are deeply honored to receive this gift from Yield Giving and MacKenzie Scott and are thrilled to begin 2024 on such a high note,” Rice said. “As we embark on this new year, we do so with renewed hope and determination, inspired by the support and trust of our community and partners like you.”
