On Jan. 25, the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego will honor six legal community members at its 65th annual awards celebration.
"We are fortunate to have so many individuals in our community focused on advancing our mission," said Paula Brown, CASD President. "This year's award winners are extraordinary individuals who have all made significant contributions to the legal profession and the greater San Diego community. We are proud to recognize each honoree, and we thank them for their diligence, dedication, and commitment to the people of San Diego."
Joshua D. Gruenberg of Gruenberg Law will be honored as Lawyer of the Year. This award requires the attorney to have won several exceptional jury trials throughout the year.
"When I got the news, it took my breath away." Gruenberg said. "I've been a member of the organization, literally since the day I was sworn in. I worked for a plaintiff's lawyer as a law clerk and knew when I passed the bar what I was going to be doing."
Gruenberg handles employment law matters and serious injury cases. He has two offices -- in San Diego and San Marcos.
Judge Kenneth J. Medel will be given the Judge of the Year award, which honors a judge who promotes a high level of fairness, wisdom, bravery, and respect for litigants and attorneys in the courtroom.
"I have deep respect for both the plaintiffs and defense bar, and being honored by either one of them is a huge compliment to the service that I try to provide," Medel said. "I am deeply grateful for this recognition."
Also recognized will be Sen. Toni Atkins as Legislator of the Year, Vice-Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Terra Lawson-Remer will be recognized as the Consumer Advocate of the Year, Appellate Case of the Year will be presented to attorney Jon R. Williams and Media Person of the Year award will go to Voice of San Diego Senior Investigative Reporter Lisa Halverstadt.
