The Association of Corporate Counsel - Southern California gave Heather Anderson, vice president of original content and business affairs at ESPN, its 2024 Diversity Counsel of the Year Award. The group also honored Don H. Liu, executive vice president and chief legal and compliance officer at Target Corp., with its 2024 Pro Bono Counsel of the Year Award. The awards were handed out Thursday night at a gala in downtown Los Angeles where comedian Bill Maher spoke.
Anderson founded the Black Business and Employee Resource Group on The Walt Disney Co. and the Disney Lawyers of Color. She was also a founding member of Women in the Legal Department and an executive advisor to Women@Disney and a member of the Hispanic Business and Employee Resource Group. She recently served on the Television Academy's Diversity Council and the Council on Access and Fairness for the State Bar of California.
In 2021, Liu co-founded and launched the Alliance for Asian American Justice, a national pro bono initiative to support victims of anti-Asian hate crimes. He has spearheaded an effort for members of Target's legal team to volunteer hundreds of hours of legal services each year. His commitment to the next generation of AAPI attorneys inspired the Don H. Liu Scholars Program, which empowers first-year AAPI law students who demonstrate financial need and leadership potential.
