Jason Y. Kelly, a partner at Annaguey McCann LLP in Los Angeles, is at the forefront of a rapidly evolving legal landscape. He has carved out a unique niche in artificial intelligence governance and privacy law, as well as civil litigation, specializing in complex litigation and class actions.
"There are people who legitimately believe that AI is the beginning of the end and will become something that goes beyond our control," Kelly said. "I'm not in that camp. Yes, it's likely that AI will change some jobs, but that was true for past technologies, too. In the 1950s, for example, there used to be armies of secretaries using typewriters to make copies of documents. The Xerox machine eliminated a lot of those jobs but then people were trained to do other jobs, including tech jobs. Eventually, you will see people upskilling and transitioning to different jobs in response to AI."
Kelly's experience bridges traditional legal challenges with cutting-edge technology issues. In his most recent case, Kelly is leading the defense for an e-commerce company facing allegations of privacy violations related to the collection of customer information.
Beyond the courtroom, Kelly is tackling pre-litigation disputes involving AI and machine learning in online marketplaces, showcasing his ability to navigate the intricate world of intellectual property in the digital age. His counsel is also sought in matters concerning web beacons, privacy policies, intellectual property and emerging privacy statutes.
Kelly's influence extends to the nonprofit sector, where he serves on the board of advisors for AI 2030, contributing to global efforts to promote responsible AI development. His commitment to privacy and AI governance is further evidenced by his membership in the International Association of Privacy Professionals and his certifications as an Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional and a U.S. and European Certified Information Privacy Professional.
With a keen eye on the future of law and technology, Kelly stands out as a lawyer who not only understands the complexities of today's digital landscape but is actively shaping the framework for tomorrow's AI-driven world.
