San Diego County Bar Association initiates pro bono estate planning services for first responders, military
This program, scheduled to run through the end of October, aims to assist in the creation of critical legal documents such as wills, power of attorney, and advanced health directive at no cost to the eligible participants.
The San Diego County Bar Association has launched a "Wills for Heroes" program, a pro bono initiative designed to provide essential estate planning services to first responders and healthcare workers in the San Diego area.
This program, scheduled to run through the end of October, aims to assist in the creation of critical legal documents such as wills, power of attorney, and advanced health directive at no cost to the eligible participants.
The program has broadened its reach this year to serve active-duty military personnel based in the San Diego region. It now covers several key installations: three naval facilities, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
Debra Rosen, executive director of the SDCBA, said "the San Diego County Bar Association is committed to public service. The 'Wills for Heroes' program exemplifies this commitment, made possible through the dedication of our volunteer attorneys."
Participating attorneys will provide pro bono assistance in the preparation and notarization of several crucial legal documents. These include last wills and testaments, durable powers of attorney for property management, and advance health care directives. To be eligible for these services, participants must have an estate with equity valued below $500,000.
The program will operate through Oct. 31, with all consultations conducted via virtual platforms to ensure accessibility and convenience. Attorneys interested in volunteering their services for this program must register by Oct. 18. Please visit www.sdcba.org/willsforheroes for more information and registration.
