The Los Angeles County Superior Court will use electronic service to transmit, deliver or serve required case documents in probate and mental health cases starting April 1.
Represented parties will be required to accept "eService." Self-represented parties will have the option to receive electronic notices.
The service is intended to streamline case management by allowing attorneys and self-represented litigants to receive case documents electronically from the court, said a court announcement. Self-represented litigants who use eService will get quicker service than traditional mail.
Also, case documents can be accessed electronically from any location, and eService provides automatic proof of service for recipients.
The court rolled out eService with appeals documents in juvenile dependency, family law, probate, mental health, and limited and unlimited civil cases. It expanded the service to all required case documents in juvenile dependency on March 3. Full implementation is expected by July 1.
