The Los Angeles County Superior Court put out a call Friday for experienced attorneys to apply for its temporary judge program.
"This program is a unique opportunity for qualified attorneys to serve in one of the nation's largest and most diverse court systems, contribute to the administration of justice, gain valuable experience on the bench, and give back to the Los Angeles County community," the court's announcement read.
Applicants must be in good standing with the State Bar, the announcement said, with no felony convictions or disciplinary action. They also must have been members of the bar for 10 years.
Interested attorneys will be required to complete three hours of training in bench conduct and demeanor, three hours of online judicial ethics training and three hours in small claims, traffic, unlawful detainer or family law.
Performance of temporary judges is subject to review by a temporary judge committee, and participants are prohibited from using the titles "judge," "judge pro tem" or "temporary judge" in advertising materials, according to guidelines on the court's website.
Attorneys can apply by filling out the application to serve as a temporary judge on the court's website and emailing the completed form to TempJudgeProgram@lacourt.org.
