The closure of the U.S. District Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles due to a power outage will continue through Monday, according to a statement Friday from a government spokesman.
"On Jan. 21, the electrical service line that delivers power to the U.S. Courthouse failed," said the spokesman for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in an emailed statement on Friday. "GSA is currently working with the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to conduct repairs that will restore full service to the building.
"In cooperation with the U.S. District Court, GSA has limited access to the building to authorized personnel only through Monday, with an anticipated reopen date of Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026," the statement continued.
The statement echoes that of Clerk of Court Brian D. Karth, who said Thursday that repair crews would be working through the weekend to resolve the issue, citing estimates by the GSA.
Proceedings in two criminal matters, including an illegal gambling trial involving former Dodger Yasiel Puig, have been moved to the Edward R. Roybal Courthouse, which is also downtown. Those proceedings will continue to be held at the Roybal Courthouse through Monday.
