Known as a "Peacemaker" committed to effective and efficient justice, Judge Firmat brings a wealth of experience. He served 27 years on the bench, presided over more than 200 jury trials, handled more than 15,000 law and motion hearings and has heard over 6,000 mediations and settlement conferences.
Elevated to the Superior Court in 1990, Judge Firmat served 17 1/2 years in Civil calendars and 7 1/2 years in Family Law, including more than five-and-a-half years as Supervising Judge of the Family Law Panel. His contributions to the legal community have been recognized with the Franklin G. West Award, the Orange County Bar Association's highest honor, and the Benjamin Aranda III Access to Justice Award, awarded jointly by the State Bar, the Judicial Council, and the California Judges Association.
Judge Firmat is a Cuban-American who brings a unique linguistic and cultural proficiency to his practice. He once was a Teaching Assistant at the University of Southern California (USC), where he taught conversational Spanish. Prior to his judicial appointment, he was an attorney and a Court Certified Spanish Interpreter. His experience includes:

• Civil & Complex Litigation: Breach of contract, fraud, medical malpractice, partnership disputes, employment, real estate, and HOA disputes.
