Judge Hurwitz draws on more than four decades of legal experience in his work as a neutral with Judicate West, including extensive service as a civil litigator and more than two decades on the Orange County Superior Court bench. Known for his calm judicial demeanor and dedicated approach to dispute resolution, he is widely respected for his ability to manage complex, high-conflict matters while ensuring all parties are heard and treated with fairness and respect.

During his 21 years on the bench, Judge Hurwitz presided over thousands of cases across a wide range of subject areas. He spent 16 years in the court's Family Law Division, including six years as Supervising Judge, where he handled complex matters involving custody, financial disputes, domestic violence, dissolution, surrogacy, relocation issues, paternity, and parental termination. His extensive experience managing emotionally charged cases strengthened his skills in de-escalation and practical problem-solving.

In the final four years of his judicial tenure, Judge Hurwitz was assigned to the Unlimited Civil and Complex Civil Litigation departments. There, he managed sophisticated matters including mass torts, wage and hour class actions, PAGA claims, and business and commercial disputes. Prior to his judicial service, he spent 25 years in private practice as a civil litigator, focusing on construction defect and personal injury cases.

Highly regarded within the legal community, Judge Hurwitz has been recognized as "Judge of the Year" by 11 Bar Organizations and is widely respected for his professionalism, humility, and commitment to helping parties resolve disputes efficiently and thoughtfully.
