COMMERCE — After spending 20 years in retail and as general counsel for Smart & Final Stores Inc., Leland P. Smith said he doesn't like looking at the law like a lawyer.
"I have never had sort of a deep, intellectual curiosity in the law like a lot of lawyers do," Smith said. "For me, the law has always been more of a tool to solve business problems."
