FRESNO -- Fresno County Judge David E. Muñoz had been a deputy public defender for several years when he went to court to defend himself against a traffic infraction for making an illegal U-turn. Muñoz still recalls the fear he felt standing before a judge as a defendant (he lost and had to go to traffic school) and he uses that story to urge lawyers to be more empathetic with their clients.
