MONTEREY PARK - The courtroom had always drawn Superior Court Judge Natalie Nardecchia in, but it wasn't until she sat in the gallery as a foster parent that she fully understood what it meant to be a judge in dependency court.

She saw parents struggle to regain custody of their children and witnessed the immense responsibility that came with every decision from the bench. The work of Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Amy Pellman, now retired, stood out.
