LOS ANGELES - It was a momentous victory for the LGBT community: after years of discrimination, the FBI could no longer consider a person's sexual orientation a de facto disqualification for employment.

The change resulted from a settlement of veteran agent Frank Buttino's class action, which challenged his firing as being based on his homosexuality.
