SAN DIEGO - William S. Dato is not crazy about civil war reenactment battles.

"I just sort of dabble," Dato said recently, downplaying the father-son hobby. His oldest child persuaded him to come along years ago, he explained, and now his youngest son has gotten in on the act. He prefers the history lessons to the reenactments themselves.
