SAN DIEGO - Edlene McKenzie attended preschool in Kabul, high school in Tehran, and her freshman year of college in Heidelberg.

In between, the Arizona native made school friends in South Carolina, California, Washington, D.C., and Texas.

McKenzie, now a San Diego County Superior Court commissioner, is the daughter of a career Air Force officer. Travel was a way of life.
