Wilfred J. Schneider Jr. says the death of his wife opened his eyes to the importance of family ties. As a judge, he says, he now strives hard to reunite troubled parents and children 'before it's too late.'

SAN BERNARDINO - Judge Wilfred J. Schneider Jr. knows on a deep personal level the toll that the loss of a parent can have on a child. His wife, Sue, was diagnosed with cancer last December. Three months later, she died, leaving behind two daughters.
