PASADENA - Teri Schwartz never intended to practice law, let alone become a judge. She figured a law degree would benefit her should she decide to pursue politics as a career.

"I was fascinated by politics and the political process," said Schwartz, who worked as a volunteer on Bella Abzug's unsuccessful 1976 bid for the U.S. Senate.
