MARTINEZ - A devout follower of theater and the arts, Terri A. Mockler borrows from Shakespeare's Hamlet for her courtroom motto to lawyers: "Brevity is the soul of wit."

"I really expect that of lawyers in my courtroom," the Contra Costa Superior Court judge said. "You really don't need to tell me a lot in order for me to understand what it is you are asking for."
