STOCKTON - In 2010, Roger Ross was extremely unlucky. He was not only bitten by a mosquito carrying the West Nile virus, but he was hit with an extremely rare and serious version of the illness.

It attacked his nervous system and had his doctors suggesting he be taken off life support.
