MOJAVE - Putting off hearings really gets under Jose R. Benavides' skin.
All too often, the Kern County Superior Court judge said, he used to have criminal defense attorneys ask him to delay hearings for 30 days. Their clients wouldn't be in court, Benavides said, and the lawyers would request extensions to present plea offers from the district attorney's office.
