SAN JOSE - Education was very important in Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Rise Pichon's family.

Both of her parents had college degrees, and her mother was determined she would go to college.

"Mom taught me I had to rely on myself," Pichon said. "There was an expectation that I do well."
