Circuit Judge N. Randy Smith, the most recent appointee to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, got his robe from President George W. Bush in 2007 after the U.S. Senate confirmed him 94-0.
Smith, 60, whose first name is Norman and who was born and raised and practiced law in Idaho, had a bumpier path to his federal appellate judgeship than the Senate's lopsided endorsement might suggest.
