SAN JOSE - As eighth graders, Shawna Schwarz and her best friend wrote down what they hoped to be in 10 years, promising each other not to open the envelope until the time came.

"The three things I said I wanted to do for a living was pediatrician, child psychologist, and then the third one also had to do with kids," she said.
