SAN RAFAEL - When a defense lawyer asked to put her client on the stand but limit the testimony to whether police had conducted a legal search, Marin County Superior Court Judge Andrew Sweet paused.
He wasn't familiar with the law on that issue and the attorneys couldn't cite him a case.
