MONTEREY PARK -- Judge Lisa R. Jaskol said she doesn't communicate much with children in her dependency courtroom other than greetings, but one day found herself explaining to a 17-year-old why he couldn't go back home.
Since he was nearly a legal adult, she went over in detail that because of a substance abuse problem, he had to be temporarily taken away from his stepfather.
