  ALAMEDA - Every Saturday at 7 a.m., Alameda County Commissioner Thomas J. Nixon's
  phone rings. For the last 30 years, the voice on the other end has been that of his
  father, Marvin Nixon.  

  The father and son chat for an hour or so. Sometimes Marvin tells his son about a
  golf course he played recently. Sometimes Thomas tells his dad about a round he shot
  under 80.
