SANTA ANA — There’s not much Judge Derek Hunt loves more than a spirited debate.

He wouldn’t call himself a philosopher. His old Western philosophy professor might not approve of that moniker, he joked. But he’s found the best way to expand his worldview is to challenge it. And the best way to do that is to engage with those whose views might differ from his own, said the Orange County Superior Court judge.
