Hon. Percy Anderson

The first time Percy Anderson applied for a federal judgeship, President George H.W. Bush phoned in person to nominate him.

"There's nothing like getting a call from Air Force One at 7 a.m.," Anderson said, recalling the moment.

Unfortunately, his nomination, like that of his colleague, John F. "Jack" Walter, hit a political impasse in the Senate on the eve of the 1992 presidential election, which Bush lost to Bill Clinton.
