It has been nearly 14 years since Robert W. Zakon became a Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner and was assigned briefly to family law.
Only now, in his third visit to that arena, has he started feeling at home with divorces, property disputes and custody battles.
Yet, the 65-year-old commissioner still harbors some strong misgivings about a system that places children in the crossfire of warring parents.
