Inadequate Health Care System Spreads Bankruptcy Epidemic

Forum Column - By David A. Lash - Like so many others, she walked into a legal services office afraid, not knowing where to turn. Unlike those countless others, though, she knew the director, members of the board and many of their friends. She had grown up with them in suburbia - a middle class life, comfortable in all respects. But now she was in crisis, and she was as embarrassed as she was needy. A devastating illness had created a personal tipping point from which she had fallen into poverty.
