The right of survivorship assures the surviving community tenant that he or she will receive the property at the death of the other community tenant.
On Sept. 26, Gov. Davis signed a bill adding Section 682.1, which provides for community property with a right of survivorship, to the Civil Code. The bill gives married persons an important option for holding title to community property in California.
