The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to cut off debate on San Diego County Superior Court Judge James E. Simmons Jr.’s nomination to a vacancy on the Southern District of California bench.
The 51-45 vote moves Simmons, a former gang prosecutor, one step away from confirmation.
No final vote on Simmons’ nomination by President Joe Biden had been scheduled as of press time.
