The lesson of the Girardi fiasco is that the State Bar should stop prejudicial enforcement
The State Bar has corrected the unfair treatment of lawyers, but failed to protect the public from worse treatment by lawyers, even though protecting the public is the State Bar’s top priority. To put it in perspective, the State Bar has bandaged the shaving nicks, but missed the hemorrhaging.

F irst, the State Bar should be commended for having the May and Lazar reports about Girardi prepared and released. The release of the reports took courage and integrity. Second, the State Bar has taken too much responsibility for the Girardi related problems, because there was another government agency which failed to act. Third, there is a substantial risk that the State Bar will not learn the most important lesson from the Girardi situation.
