State to pay church attorneys $500K in abortion mandate case
The three churches sued to block a state mandate that as employers they must cover abortion care. The complaint, which alleged violations of the First and 14th Amendments, named Mary Watanabe, director of the California Department of Managed Health Care as the defendant.




Attorney General Rob Bonta agreed to pay $500,000 in fees to attorneys who fought on behalf of three churches against an employee abortion care mandate.
Jeremiah Galus, senior counsel with the Washington D.C.-based Alliance Defending Freedom, signed the agreement on Monday for Foothill Church in Glendora. Alexander M. Medina with Medina McKelvey LLP helped represent Calvary Chapel Chino Hills.
