Businesses show no appetite for suing over emissions bill

SB 253 cleared the Senate on a 25-8, party-line vote on Tuesday and now sits on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.

Business groups fought hard to keep a bill requiring corporations to disclose greenhouse gas emissions off of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk. But these same groups appear unlikely to sue to stop SB 253 if Newsom signs it.

“I’m not aware of any discussions about a legal challenge at this point,” Denise Davis, executive vice president of communications for the California Chamber of Commerce, said in an email.
