Prohibition era law cited in online privacy lawsuit

The case filed against a British gaming website is one of many recent complaints filed against technology companies citing the The Wiretap Act, which was passed in 1934.

A Sacramento man accused a British gaming website of feeding customer data to Meta Platforms Inc. in violation of the federal Wiretap Act.

In a complaint filed Wednesday, Adam Birch claimed Green Man Gaming Limited violated his privacy. The company sells over 10,000 video games for PC, Xbox and Nintendo. He is seeking class certification to allow other visitors to the company's website to join the case.
