Laws have largely failed to prevent AI generated impersonations and technology companies aren't helping.

Beware if the phone rings and a distressed family member or friend reports that he or she has been in a car accident and needs money. The family member may really be a voice clone created to defraud you.

In 2023, 853,935 imposter scams were reported to the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Sentinel Network. Almost a quarter of those scams involved requests for money, resulting in total losses of $2.7 billion.
